Gary Coleman Dies at 42

Child actor Gary Coleman – best known for his role as Arnold Drummond on the sitcom ‘Diff’rent Strokes – has died at the age of 42.
Coleman suffered an intracranial brain hemorrhage when he fell at his Utah home on Wednesday. He eventually slipped into a coma and was placed on life support at a Utah hospital. Coleman was taken off life support this morning and died at 12:05 p.m. MDT, according to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center spokeswoman Janet Frank. Coleman’s wife Shannon Price was at his side at the time of his death.
After finding fame as a television star in the 1970s and 1980s, which led to appearances in several movies and commercials, Coleman suffered a series of medical problems and run-ins with the law. Most of the years following Diff’rent Strokes were little more than tabloid fodder. From working as a security guard and hitting a woman he said was harassing him to hitting another man with his truck at a bowling alley after an argument, Coleman’s arrests always made the news.
Coleman and his wife also appeared on the show ‘Divorce Court.’
Students Paddled For Wearing Ghetto Prom Attire

Students in Oxford, Alabama are remembering prom, but for a completely different reason than their peers.
In response to public outcries against the overall look of students who participate in high school proms being sleazy and ridiculous, Oxford High School principal Trey Holladay released a prom dress code that outlined what would be accepted and also outlined the punishment for offenders who broke the approved dress code.
Obama Family In Chicago, Barack Speaks On BP Oil Spill

Barack Obama is multitasking this Memorial Day weekend trying to spend time with his family in Chicago and dealing with this damn oil spill fiasco.
Details and photos on the flipside…
President Barack Obama said Saturday that the failure of BP’s latest effort to stop the damaging flow of oil into the Gulf of Mexico is “as enraging as it is heartbreaking.”
Obama commented after BP officials reached the disappointing conclusion that a dayslong effort to stop the flow of oil, known as a “top kill,” by packing the well with mud had failed.
It was the latest in a series of failed attempts by BP to cut off the flow of oil.
BP will now try anew by cutting the pipe that lies deep underwater and fitting a containment valve over the leak, an effort expected to take four to seven days.
The disappointing news came a day after Obama interrupted a long holiday weekend at his home in Chicago to visit the Louisiana coast on Friday and show its angry residents that he is in command of the situation.
Is Common Single Again?

You know, although Common did speak about Serena Williams and marriage on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Common didn’t mention Serena’s name in the context of getting married – only that he wanted to wed eventually.
Maybe that’s why a new rumor about the Just Wright star and tennis great being over is spreading so fast.
Rhymes With Snitch reports that word has it that Serena and Common have grown apart and that was why we saw Common’s mom on the red carpet for the premiere of Just Wright and not Serena.
And here’s what In Touch Weekly is saying:
After over two years of dating, tennis star Serena Williams, 28, and rapper Common, 38, have split. “They just grew apart,” said a friend of the musician’s. The duo made a last public appearance in April at the New York premiere of Date Night, but Common was acting single on the Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage cruise while promoting the film Just Wright in mid-May. “He was a big hit with the ladies,” says a witness.
Nas And Kelis Officially Divorced

Nas can breathe a sigh of relief now that his marriage to Kelis is officially over.
According to TMZ, an L.A. court judge finalized the termination of their marriage Friday.
As previously reported, the singer asked for a rush on her divorce from the rapper citing irreconcilable differences.
Following that Nas alleged that she was keeping him from seeing their son Knight saying that she puts him through “hell” to see his child.
He told VIBE,
“My son was born with ice grills, so when his mom feels in the mood she sends pictures. If not, it’s hell. It’s hell trying to figure that out, trying to get him—I’ll just leave it at that. It’s hell. A man shouldn’t go through that s**t, but it’s another story I’ma tell at a different time.”
The ex-couple still has a number of issues to work out including the $10,000 a month in child support he’s expected to pay which he says he can’t afford.
Nas previously paid a portion of Kelis’ legal fees, accounting expenses and spousal support totaling close to $300,000.

Possible jail For Ex-Detroit Mayor

DETROIT – Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, sent to jail and forced to resign over racy text messages that showed he had lied under oath, has presented himself as a changed man since his release last year — someone working to repair his damaged relationship with his family and pay the $1 million in restitution he owes the city.
FILE – In this Jan. 20, 2010 file photo, former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick appears during his restitution hearing in Detroit. Circuit Judge David Groner must decide Tuesday, May 25, 2010 what’s next after ruling in April that Kilpatrick violated probation from a 2008 criminal case by failing to report all assets and failing to meet other conditions. Kilpatrick has been on probation since his release from jail in 2009 for obstruction of justice and assault, all related to a text-message scandal that revealed an affair with his chief of staff and destroyed his political career. (AP Photo/Paul Sancya, File) But his inability — or unwillingness — to tell the truth about his finances could further humble Kilpatrick and lead him back to a cell Tuesday.
Wayne County Circuit Judge David Groner will determine Kilpatrick’s punishment after ruling last month that the former mayor violated his probation by failing to report all assets and failing to meet other conditions.
State Corrections officials have suggested less than a year in county jail. Defense attorneys want no jail time, saying it will hamper Kilpatrick’s ability to pay the money he still owes. But prosecutors say two to five years in state prison would be appropriate.
“The defendant has continued to lie to this court about his ability to pay restitution,” Prosecutor Kym Worthy wrote in a 10-page sentencing memorandum submitted to Groner on Monday. “This court cannot reward lies, deceit and fraud with more probation.”
Court says black firefighter lawsuit can proceed

WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court ruled Monday a group of African Americans did not wait too long to sue Chicago over a hiring test they challenged as discriminatory, freeing them to collect a lower court judgment.
FILE – In this April 9, 2010 file photo the Supreme Court is seen in Washington. Since the country’s birth, the primary mission of the American political party has been this: amass power by recruiting candidates, raising money and spreading messages. In short, a holding company that elects people — with a monopoly for a century and a half by Democrats and Republicans. (AP Photo/Evan Vucci, File) It is the second time in as many years the high court has tackled discrimination in testing within the firefighting ranks. In a landmark case last year, the Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision said New Haven, Conn., violated white firefighters’ civil rights, throwing out an exam in which no African-Americans scored high enough to be promoted to lieutenant or captain.
In Monday’s unanimous opinion, Justice Antonin Scalia wrote for the court that the applicants’ lawsuit over a city of Chicago test used to weed out potential firefighter trainee applicants was not too late.
“Today, the Supreme Court affirmed that job-seekers should not be denied justice based on a technicality,” said John Payton, president of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc., who argued the case. “This victory goes well beyond the immediate results in Chicago. It should ensure that no other fire department or employer uses a discriminatory test, and LDF will go the extra mile to make sure that they do not.”
Another Black Man gets Blamed when a Philly Cop Fakes Shooting.

Well, that Mysterious Unidentified Black Man (MUBM), who commits all the crimes white people don’t want to admit to, has struck again in Philly. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer: A Philadelphia police sergeant who said he was shot last month by an unidentified black man in the city’s Overbrook section actually fabricated the entire story and shot himself, Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said this morning. Sgt. Robert Ralston, a 21-year veteran of the department, admitted to homicide detectives early this morning that his previously reported story was false.
Ramsey called the incident “a terrible and embarrassing chapter in our history.” Asked why Ralston concocted the tale and injured himself, Ramsey said he didn’t know.
Allison Steele, a writer for the Inquirer, reported on Tuesday:
Ralston will be suspended for 30 days with the intent to dismiss, Ramsey said. Ralston, married with five children, will face no criminal charges in the case, because he was offered immunity in exchange for his confession.
Ralston will also have to pay the cost of the massive manhunt that was sparked by his tale on April 5, Ramsey said.
In a frantic search for the MUBM, police spent hours combing a West Philadelphia neighborhood for possible suspects, although no one was formally questioned or arrested. The Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge No. 5, had even posted a $10,000 reward for information leading to the suspect.
Latinos Outpace Blacks in the Recent Jobs Report
This is a must read. We need to know where we stand…………
In the most recent jobs report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Hispanic Americans were found to be doing far better than African Americans when it comes to finding jobs in the economic downturn. Overall unemployment for Hispanics was 12.5 percent, while unemployment for African Americans remained at 16.5 percent. Both of these numbers do not compare favorably to white unemployment, which is at 9 percent
Differences between African Americans and Hispanics were also present for women and men when separated into different groups based on gender and age. Hispanic men had an unemployment rate of 11.2 percent, while black men saw their unemployment rate remain the highest of all demographics, at 18 percent. Hispanic women did better than African American women, with an unemployment rate of 11.1 percent, lower than the 13.7 percent rate for African American women. White women did better than any other demographic, maintaining an unemployment rate of 7.4 percent.
The differentials for black and Hispanic teens were similar to those for men and women. Hispanic teenagers have an unemployment rate of 29.2 percent, which is a drop from last month’s rate of 30.1 percent. Black teens face an unemployment rate of 37.3 percent, a reduction from the prior month’s rate of 41.1 percent.
