Obama’s Speaking Indonesian Dazzles at State Dept.

ABC News’ Kirit Radia Reports: As President Obama worked the rope-line at the State Department Thursday, a State Department staffer named Charles Silver, knowing the President once lived in Indonesia, shouted out, “good afternoon” in the local language.

Obama responded back in what Silver later told ABC News was “very good” Bahasa Indonesian. The two then chatted briefly about the neighborhood Obama once lived in.

When the staffer asked if Obama had lived in the Jakarta neighborhood where embassy staffers live, Obama replied that was for rich people, and he lived in another neighborhood with a similar name, one that Silver said is where the “real people” live.

Silver told ABC News that he has been stationed in Indonesia off and on since 1969. He’s currently working in the State Department’s Office of Inspector General.

As far back as March 2007, Obama pointed to his years in Indonesia as helping to prepare him for the presidency.

“If I go to Jakarta and address the largest Muslim country on earth, I can say, ‘Apa kabar,’ — you know, ‘How are you doing?’ — and they can recognize that I understand their common humanity,” Obama told the National Jewish Democratic Council during a Washington, D.C. forum.

“That is a strength,” he continued, “and it allows me to say things to them that other presidents might not be able to say. And that’s part of what’s promising, I think, about this presidency.”

Tyler Perry is officially the man

ATLANTA, Oct. 5 (UPI) — A number of celebrities say they are impressed by Tyler Perry’s success in becoming the first black producer to own a major U.S. studio.

Actress Cicely Tyson said her movie career paled in comparison to Perry’s accomplishments, which now include Saturday’s opening of the 30-acre Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

“I never dreamed I would witness this in my lifetime,” the former Oscar nominee said. “What I’ve been able to achieve in my career is minuscule in comparison to this.”

Others on hand included actor Sydney Poitier and talk show host Oprah Winfrey.

Perry transformed a former airline reservations center into his studio. For the “Family that Preys” director, finding the Atlanta site was an instance of divine intervention.

“I looked closer and realized someone had taped Bible scriptures on the gate,” he told the newspaper of his first experience with the site two years ago. “Then I knew. I jumped in full steam with no fear. Nothing but the grace of God has brought me to this place.” Source

Classic 1994 clip of Tupac Shakur Arsenio Hall Interview

Everytime I see this clip it takes me back, way back..I think I must have been like 17 when I first saw this. Tupac definitely was no angel, his ass was always in trouble but he was such a brilliant artist, and he kept it very real. As I look back on this clip I can see now how cool, and direct of an interviewer Arsenio Hall was. There are not many mainstream talk show hosts who ask tough questions like he did. It’s clear Arsenio was a fan of Tupac but yet he still made him clarify all his legal woes. Check out this classic clip. We will always love & remember you Tupac…

What’s up Madonna’s butt?

madonna.jpgI’m so annoyed right now. I was in the mood to watch Madonna’s video “jump” and when I tried to find it on youtube and other sites  I saw this annoying message “This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Warner Music Group Germany“. WTF??? I am so tired of labels trying to censor every single thing the public wants to see. I give major props to the musicians and record labels that don’t freak out because video sites like youtube and myspacetv have clips of their videos and songs.

Since I didn’t want to be shady and find a site that’s showing it illegally I decided to go back a few years and check out one of my favorite songs and videos from back in the day , “Dance Tonight” by Lucy Pearl. I Continue reading
