What TI and Tupac Have in Common: Hip Hop and Incarceration

ti_2pac-mug_shots

We all know that the rapper TI recently began his 366 day prison sentence in an Arkansas prison. Merged with the brilliance of TI is the darker side of his existence, the part that makes him willing to risk losing his family and freedom in the midst of all of the chaos in the hip hop industry. Kelis is pregnant and totally broke.

kelis-pregnant-brokeOh geez, what a surprise, yet another black millionaire (or in all reality thousandaire) “singer”/artist Kelis is broke and ready to have a baby any day now. I guess most of us know Kelis from the whole “milkshake” song that was popular a few years ago..since then, Kelis and her husband Nas has taken on some strange movements that have personally made me want to vomit. Like their obvious publicity stunt for Nas’s mythical  ”Nigga” album that never existed, remember when these two clowns were actually fighting for the defense of the N word, syaing how is was a good thing for us to call each other that name. I remember even seeing a photo on Bossip.comof Kelis in a black jacket with the N word written across the back in gold glitter, and her foolish husband with the N word sprawled across his black shirt. That’s the moment I knew these two were no longer the edgy, unappreciated talents I always thought they were, especially Nas. Read the rest of this entry »

Snoop Dogg is no longer hardcore.

Rapper Snoop Dogg has managed to go where no gangsta rapper has ever been before and break into Bollywood. Cordozar Calvin Broadcus Junior, who is better known across the world as Snoop Dogg, performs the title track of a new Bollywood movie called Singh is Kinng which is being released in India on Friday. Starring one of Bollywood’s top actors Akshay Kumar, it’s being dubbed as the fusing of two cultures – where the King of Bollywood meets the King of Rap.

The two are said to have got on like a house on fire and Akshay even managed to get the American rapper to don Indian clothes for the music video. The film’s producer Vipul A Shah said: “Their chemistry was worth seeing as they’re superstars from two different worlds. To say the least, the video is looking brilliant.” The song is already a hit in India and is being played regularly on radio stations and in bars. In the video, the singer who has been in and out of trouble with the police for most of his life, is seen wearing a traditional Indian kurta or long shirt, beige trousers with a turban studded with a diamond.

T-Pain Sparks A Revoultion …sort of

T-Pain’s Oscar worthy song Buy U A Drank (Shawty Snappin’) from ‘07 has dazzled and amazed us all with it’s well thought out lyrics and rhythmic unique beats. Now there’s a small following of you-tubers who are putting their own special twist on this future classic. These clips are great. There are 4 videos total, the first is the original version from the “artist” himself. Someone even went through the trouble of making a SIMS version which is pretty cool. I find it ironic that even in the SIMS version of this video the girl in the video is light skinned with long hair. I guess art does imitate life. Anyway, I liked the preppy white guy one the best! Tell me what you think.

Another example that proves Hip-Hop is dead

A couple of weeks ago I was told that Snoop Dog would be making a guest appearance on ABC’s soap opera One Life To Live. Not only was I not surprised, but not one else on the planet seemed to care, I barely heard squat about it. If Snoop Dog was Will Smith or Coolio I wouldn’t mind since they’ve both never represented real hip-hop and catered to the pop mainstream. I think Snoop is rich enough to not have to stoop this low. He is still very famous ( God only knows why ) but I think his “street cred” is all gone, especially after seeing this. Hip hop has officially sold it’s soul. Ice Cube is now Disney’s bottom bitch and Snoop is singing the opening song and guest appearing on One Life To Live. I hope he is investing his money wisely because I think this ride is going to be over soon. Good lord, what is the world coming too? KRS-One we need you!

Classic 1994 clip of Tupac Shakur Arsenio Hall Interview

Everytime I see this clip it takes me back, way back..I think I must have been like 17 when I first saw this. Tupac definitely was no angel, his ass was always in trouble but he was such a brilliant artist, and he kept it very real. As I look back on this clip I can see now how cool, and direct of an interviewer Arsenio Hall was. There are not many mainstream talk show hosts who ask tough questions like he did. It’s clear Arsenio was a fan of Tupac but yet he still made him clarify all his legal woes. Check out this classic clip. We will always love & remember you Tupac…

Another example of how hard 50 Cent is.

Just a few random pics of 50 Cent and Carrie Underwood hamming it up during a commercial shoot for Vitamin Water and stupid stuff. There is nothing wrong with selling your soul to big companies for a profit, everyone and their grandma has a product their pushing, I understand that now. The problem is, when you still try to pass yourself off as this real dude from the streets, it’s not convincing when your constantly partying with Paris Hilton, throwing temper tantrums if your album doesn’t outsell Kayne’s, or selling out to the highest bidder. I don’t know too many hardcore gangstas who do that, but wankstas do. Have fun.

Trina fails to convince us she’s a lady

trina.jpgI was watching Trina’s new video “I got a thang for you” featuring Keisha Cole and I couldn’t help but see the irony in her attempt to now be seen as softer and more mainstream than before. We all know how dirty this girl is, and back when hip-hop was hot she didn’t hide the fact that she was ghetto and ho, she actually seemed quite proud of it.

But we insiders know the truth to Hip-Hop’s about face attitude towards pop that we are seeing more and more of everyday. Hip-Hop is slowly becoming more pop more than ever before. The nasty, jail bragging, female bashing , ignorance that has become standard in most hip-hop music is slowly fading out, and replaced by  a new glitzy, popish, mainstream sound that appeals to the masses and fits in somewhere between Miley Cyrus and Justin Timberlake. Everyone and there grandmamma has to collaborate now more than ever just to sell records. No one is benefiting from this more than Justin since he seems to be on everyone’s album and video. I see major JT overkill happening very soon. Read the rest of this entry »

Rapper and ex-con Foxy Brown gets reality show

Foxy Brown and her saggy breasts“Rapper Foxy Brown is in talks to front her own reality TV show. The “Candy” singer – who is currently incarcerated at New York’s Riker’s Island jail – is reportedly negotiating with VH1 to document her day-to-day life in a new program.

If the deal does come to fruition, Brown will be following in the footsteps of fellow hip-hop stars Flavor Flav and Da Brat, who have also found success with their own VH1 shows.

Brown – real name Inga Marchand – is currently serving a one-year prison sentence for violating her probation after a string of altercations.”

Great. Now this washed up drag queen looking hefer is gonna try to make some kind of a comeback with yet another D-list reality show. Let me guess, she’s gonna be a nasty bitch to everybody and hit people with stuff while promoting her new album. Big deal, you are so over with “china doll”. Your only famous now  for being an trouble making psycho. In 10 years I predict Foxy Brown  will be the Janice Dickinson of hip-hop. No body likes you anymore! Go away! Read the rest of this entry »
